Coastal SAT Academy's 2025 Program Runs July 12th - 26th
FAQs
Coastal SAT Academy is the realization of a vision of two educators, Dr. Tennille Scheriff and Kimberly Lundgren. Born from their experiences living around the globe and recognizing the powerful learning opportunities Daufuskie offers, their desire is to share the magic of Daufuskie with others. Always on a quest to help youth discover their gifts and reach their full potential, it was a natural progression to combine quality SAT prep with enriching cultural and environmental experiences that will provide participants with a new perspective through which to see the world. All proceeds of the program go to non-profit Daufuskie Island Independent School in support of providing access to middle school education on the island.
What are the differences between the old SAT and the new digital SAT?
Clocking in at two hours, the new digital SAT is an hour shorter than the old paper-and-pencil SAT. Reading and writing skills are now tested together in a combined Reading/Writing section. Reading passages have been shortened with only one follow up question per passage. The number of passages, however, has increased, with new types of questions.
Calculator use is now allowed throughout the entire math section. As well, a graphing calculator is included in the digital testing platform. Though word problems are still an important part of the new digital SAT, the overall average length of word problems has decreased.
In conjunction with the content changes, format changes have been made to include more functionality in the digital platform. Test takers can now highlight text, mark questions to review, and use on-screen tools for certain problems. Instead of waiting several weeks for results, scores are typically released after only a few days.
What are the class sizes?
To allow for individualized learning, Coastal SAT Academy has a cap on 10 students per class. During individual study time 2 tutors will be available at all times to assist students.
What is not included in the tuition cost?
The cost of travel to Coastal SAT Academy is the responsibility of the participant. We will provide transport from the Savannah, GA airport and the Charleston, SC airport for those arriving by plane. Visa requirements vary by country. For most countries a visa is not required to enter the US, however there are a few exceptions. Coastal SAT Academy staff is committed to helping families navigate visa requirements to enter the United States.
